Description

Ammonium bisulfite is a chemical compound with the molecular formula H₅NO₃S. It is commonly found as a colorless to yellow crystalline solid or in aqueous solution. This compound is widely used in various industrial applications due to its reducing properties and ability to neutralize cyanide.

Application

• Water Treatment: Effective dechlorination agent for wastewater plants. Effective over the entire pH range. Requires 2.0 unit of 70% NH4HSO3 for each unit of chlorine residual.

• Textile Industry: Antichlor to reduce deterioration of cotton and other cellulosic fibers in chlorine bleaching.

• Leather Industry: Reducing agent for bichromate in chrome tanning. Reagent used in making tanning extracts.

• Pulp and Paper Industry: Antichlor following hypochlorite, chlorine, or chlorine dioxide, bleach and reducing agent to eliminate residual peroxide.

• Metal Finishing and Electropolishing Industry: An economical and convenient reducing agent for treatment of wastes containing hexavalent chromium.

• Photographic Industry: Reducing agent for silver halides.

• Pharmaceutical Industry: Stabilizer for solutions
